September 17th, 2010Is it necessary to follow Madhab … at times we are told just to follow just Quran & Sunnah?
This is a strange kind of confusion & misunderstanding ..” to just follow Quran & sunnah ” I will give u very simple answer so that everybody can understand and appreciate it.why all of you people come here tonight? to listen some one why you want to listen him? We want to learn .so what you want to learn …we want to learn Quran & Sunnah.
.off course basic sources are quran & sunnah.. but everybody cant understand everything from quran & sunnah How many people amongst you are in position to read Arabic & understand Quran without any translation or help of Tafseer or with out help of any Scholar?
how many of you are in position to understand the holy prophets’s thousands of Hadiths which are written in Arabic? without help of any scholar?
How many people in the whole Ummah can understand directly the text of Quran & sunnah? do they undersatnd ? No
so those who say you should follow Quran and Sunnah & not follow madab or any imam of Fiqh. what will happen practically?
lets put these 4 hypothesis in practice
For example You say…he just want to follow just Quran and Sunnah not any Madhab…and u will say thousands million of Muslims cant understand Arabic..we don’t know Hadth because we don’t know Arabic …even by just knowing language everybody just cant understand the quran meaning and hadith applications… so the person who claim to just follow Quran & Sunnah what will he suggest u to them (those who don’t Know Arabic)? then you will say i want to follow Quran and Sunnah but unfortunately i cant understand Quran and sunnah so how should i learn he will say come to imam of that particular mosque ..the imam will tell you to learn Arabic ..the imam sahib will say come to me i will teach you Quran and Sunnah..Same is the case with following any of four Imams of 4 Madhabs..so it means when we go to imam abu hanifa….he doesn’t say listen to me & don’t listen to Quran and Sunnah imam abu Hanifa the imam of Fiqh Hanafia has just taught us the Quran & Sunnah..similarly Imam Malik Imam Shafi and Hanble have just taught us the meaning to his followers the legal interruption & meaning of Quran & Sunah they have compiled them together with evidences and arguments then they have put them is systematic way with principles elaborated them made them in the form of articles and then they have conveyed the same meaning of Quran and Sunna which we were unable to understand directly…they have have made us understandable for us …
So that imam says come to me i will each you quran and sunnah it means imam wants that accept me as your imam not imam Abu Hanifa as Your imam
so if u are suppose to go to imam of mosque to understand Quran and Sunnah so whats the difference between two?
you are going in the same way to learn the Quran and Sunnah commandments from this imam and don’t go to Imam e Azam abu hanfia who is imam of All Imams?
similarly don’t go to imam Shafi Imam Malik & Hanble
so the madhab is nothing against Quran and Sunnah its just jurisprudential service rendered through teaching of Quran and Sunnah.
Similarly when you are ill where do you go? why don’t you use the medical books go to book shop and buy a book and read it by yourself and trat yourself..why u go to a doctor then? you know English and books are written in English just read the books ..why medical colleges are open why the specialists are there to teach you ? why there are five seven ten years of courses are there up to MD specialization in Medicine etc? every body should read the books of surgery and start doing operations ..if i say come on give me a Book of Surgery i will operate you .will you accept me?no you will not accept me as surgeon so we need a specialist in every filed .these are specialists for repairing car u will go to mechanic not doctor…so imam the imam of 4 madhab are mechanic of Islamic jurisprudence they are the engineers and specialist you accept specialization in every thing but when comes the matter of Deen Islamic jurisprudence why shouldn’t we go to specialist of that filed? so specialist of these particular subjects are called Imams of Madahibs..
Quran it self says there must be a group of people who specialize
Holy Quran Sura at-Tawbah Verse 122. states
And it is not possible for all the Muslims to set out (together). So, why should a party from within every group (or tribe) not go forth in order that they may acquire deeper knowledge (i.e. thorough understanding and insight) of Din (Religion), and warn their people when they return to them so that they may guard themselves (against a life of sins and disobedience).
So Quran itself has rejected the idea that very bod can not be competent in Quran & Haith..
so Quran itself prescribes that here should be group of specialize people so that you may learn from them.
Holy Quran Sura an-Nisā’ Verse 83 states
“. When there comes to them any news of peace or fear, they spread it around. Had they referred it to the Messenger (blessing and peace be upon him) or those of them who are in command (instead of making it public), then those among them who can draw conclusion from some matter would have found it (i.e. the truth of the news). Had there not been Allah’s Favour to you and His Mercy, certainly you would (all) have followed Satan except only a few “
In Hadith Holy Prophet said
Hadith Al-Bukhari Al-Sahih Volume 1 P.39 # 71
“whenever almighty Allah intends and decides to bless someone with special favors and mercy he makes him faqih in Deeen..”
so to become specilist in fiqh is Allah’s special mercy on Ummah
similarly in another Hadith
Hadith Al-Tirmidhi al-Jamia al-Sahih Volume 5 p.90 # 2755
One Jurist is heavier on shaitan as compared to one thousands worshipers !
so that’s why after the companions and there followers Successors specialization came in to existence some Aaima started compiling Hadiths they started working on transmission on hadiths they become transmitters
some became traditional in verifying the soundness truthfulness and reliability of the narrates.. some people started working on the meaning of Quran and Hadiths which were transmitted .Muhadith is not the specialist in meaning he is specialist of transmitting and Faqih is a specialist of meanings and implications so that’s why there were Ten Fuqaha of shababa and thousands of them were Muhadteen among the companions of Prophets there were Mujadieen Sahaba they are known as maroof bil ilm wal Ijtihad Mujtahid Sahaba were only ten and reporter were hundreds of them and every reporter was not Mujtahid and Faqih there were very few who were specialist in the techinical meaning of jurisprudence ..so Holy Prophet & his companions used to refer to those Sahabies to understand the jurisprudence nature of quran and hadith so in this way when all these things were collected and compiled so those who became the compiler of hadith transmission they became Aamia Bukhari Muslim Tirmidhi etc and those who compiled the meaning of Juristic implication of Quran and Hadith they became Aaima of Fiqh so they compiled the fiqh juristic interpretation of Quran and hadith so madhab itself is nothing else since a common person does not understand what was repealed first and what was revealed first and later on repealed what was the second commandment revealed later so what was absolute Muhadith doesn’t tell these things what was revealed in general sense what was other commandment which specified it..what was the commandment of Quran and Hadith which was just common and what was commandments which created exemptions in it. what was absolute commandment which qualified it so muhaditeen do not know these things all these things were specialization fo Aamia of Fiqh so all those who complied these sciences and then compiled the juristic know;ege of Quran and Sunnah they became the founder of Madahib e Fiqh..and this was a great blessings of almighty ALLAH on the ummah of holy prophet till today and up till day of judgment.that whenever we want to know or when we go to hadith u will never find a single hadith chapter that how many fard are there in wudo how many wajibat of salat how many Mustahabat of salat how many maqrohat of salaat Hadiths are never quoted in this way and you need to know the lways ..Hadith carried the substance of message doesn’t carry categorical in juristic way this is like a constitution the book of law..every thing is written in articulation so these were the Aaima who articulated these things and complied and articulated with all evidences and make it practicing easy the deen of Islam and Sunnah of holy prophet easy for every Muslims.
The authentic Islamic Scholars all follow one of these four schools who can trace their academic lineage from their teachers back to the Companions of the Blessed Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) or the students of the Companions and therefore back to Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). Those who refuse to do so, the self styled ignorant modern day Ghair Muqalideen are not among those described as Heirs of the Prophets.
so that’s why it become compulsory for common person to follow any of these four 4 Madhabs imams and following of madhabs means following Quran and Sunnah with specific interpretation .
